MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 17, 2017 – The El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors unanimously voted to increase the number of El Camino Hospital Board members to 11, including a non-voting CEO, at their May 15th Special District Board Meeting.
The District Board’s most recent decision builds upon their 2012 decision to include subject matter experts on the Hospital Board and Board Advisory Committees. The new governance model aims to achieve the following goals:
- Provide for the organization’s long-term sustainability
- Strengthen the competency composition and relevant experience of the Hospital Board
- Attract and retain top talent in the Hospital executive team
- Deliver on the organization’s mission and vision to advance the health of our community
“The District Board has been in the process of discussing, planning and deliberating on how to move the Hospital forward for several years. The healthcare market is changing rapidly and can be a challenging environment. We need the help of subject matter experts to adapt and thrive,” said Peter C. Fung, MD, chair of the El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors. “By choosing to expand the Hospital Board, we are working to ensure the future of our community Hospital.”
The next step in updating the governance structure is revision of the Hospital Bylaws that reflects the motion adopted by the District Board on the 15th. The vote expands the number of Hospital Board members from nine to eleven.
The El Camino Hospital District was established by voter approval in 1956 in accordance with California Local Hospital District Law. The purpose of the District is to establish, maintain and operate or provide assistance in the operation of health facilities and other health care services provider, groups and organizations that are necessary for the maintenance of good physical and mental health in the communities served by the District. The District, now known as El Camino Healthcare District, encompasses most of Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills; a large portion of Sunnyvale, and small sections of Cupertino, Santa Clara and Palo Alto. The publicly elected El Camino Healthcare District Board of Directors approves tax dollar expenditures, including expenditures for the award winning Community Benefit program. Community Benefit funds are granted each year to local nonprofits, schools and government programs that provide critical health services to the underserved. All District Board meetings are publicly noticed, open to the public and available for viewing on the District website.
